Job description:

Oil Salvage Limited is one of Britain’s largest hazardous waste management organisations offering an all- inclusive service covering collection, treatment, disposal, reprocessing and recycling of waste oils and other hazardous materials. Due to the expansion of our laboratory testing function, we are seeking to add another Laboratory Technician to our team.

Job Purpose

The principal purpose of the role is the analysis, sampling and testing of incoming waste oils, intermediary production samples and finished waste derived products.

The function is critical to the efficient operation of the sites waste oil treatment, and re-refining activities to produce marketable products.

In carrying out this role the Laboratory Technician is required to work in accordance with ISO 17025 Laboratory standards, the postholder will need to be extremely hands on and the position would suite an individual who is intending to or has recently embarked on a career as a Laboratory Technician

Duties and Responsibilities.

Receiving, sampling, labelling and laboratory analysis of samples in accordance with regulated testing and documented procedures.

Fully characterizing waste to determine its suitability for the onsite treatment processes.

Determining and communicating waste discharge locations and reporting it to the drivers in a clear precise manner.

Accurately reporting all test results to relevant departments. Ensuring the detail required for their interpretation is communicated effectively.

Recording all test observations and results in the stipulated format (paper and electronic)

Reviewing of test results, quality control and data entry.

Maintenance of all Laboratory equipment ensuring equipment is calibrated, checked and validated as required.

Ordering of Laboratory supplies to maintain the laboratory’s stock level.

Following all Laboratory and site safety guidelines and procedures.

Organising and storing all samples and chemical in line with documented Quality and EHS procedures.

Always maintaining a clean and orderly environment.

Supporting the maintenance of the ISO 17025 quality management system.

Writing and reviewing SDS and COSHH documents for laboratory chemicals.

Qualifications/Skills and Experience

You will have an Honours Degree in a relevant scientific subject for example Chemistry, Biochemistry or Physics (minimum 2.2) and ideally possess post graduate work experience within a laboratory.

Hours of work

37.5 hours per week plus a 30-minute unpaid break.

Hours to be worked will be between the hours of 6.00 am and 6.30pm (Monday to Friday either 6.00am to 2.00pm or 10.00am to 6.00 pm)

Occasional overtime as required to meet the needs of the business.

starting salary of up to £27,500 per annum

28 days holiday per annum (inclusive of statutory holidays).
