Celebrating 40 Years of ‘A Greener Vision’- A Historic Milestone for Oil Salvage

An old photograph of the Oil Salvage site

The 22nd of October marked a major milestone for Oil Salvage as we proudly celebrated 40 years since our foundation as a company. Since 1984, we have grown from a small family-run business into one of the UK’s leading waste oil collection and recycling companies, boasting our own state-of-the-art re-refinery and a fleet of vehicles that cover the whole of the UK mainland.

Our Site

Still based at our original premises in Bootle, our site now encompasses both sides of Lyster Road and contains our offices, lab, vehicle workshop, and tank farm as well as our recently expanded vacuum distillation re-refinery, which is now capable of processing 1.4 million litres of waste oil per week. The re-refinery process converts the waste oil back into a reusable base oil, which is distributed onwards to manufacturers to complete the circular economy, and if that wasn’t enough, the byproducts generated from distillation are also reused elsewhere in processes like asphalt production, meaning that every drop is given a new lease of life!

Our People

Oil Salvage remains an independent family-run business, and people continue to be at the heart of everything we do. What started out as a small team has grown into a company of almost 100 employees, and from transport to accounts, and engineering to our lab, every department plays its part in keeping the Oil Salvage operation running smoothly. Aside from the Oil Salvage team, we also wouldn’t be where we are today without our customers, from solo mechanics to national chain dealerships, we proudly service thousands of sites all over the UK, ensuring we’re taking the hassle out of hazardous waste and providing a cost-effective one-stop solution for all of your garage waste needs.

Our Fleet

Originally serving the local area with just a couple of tankers, our coverage and fleet have grown exponentially over the last four decades. Oil Salvage now boasts a fleet of 39 vehicles, made up of both tankers and box wagons, that cover the whole of the UK mainland. From Inverness to Ipswich, Holyhead to Hull and everywhere in between, our drivers travel across the UK, from major cities to remote villages, helping our customers large and small deal with their waste, and every bin, drum and drop of oil is then brought back to our site where it’s carefully and sustainably processed.

Our Vision

From the very beginning, our goal has been the same, to provide a greener vision for waste oil collection, ensuring that businesses all over the UK can safely and efficiently dispose of their waste. As proud members of ORA (Oil Recycling Association) and UKLA (United Kingdom Lubricants Association), we work with the wider hazardous waste industry to ensure we remain at the forefront of recycling as the industry develops year after year.

As we celebrate 40 years of dedication to collecting waste oil, we’d like to thank everyone who’s been a part of our journey, from the expansion of our fleet to the opening of our re-refinery, every step has been focused on dealing with waste responsibly and helping our customers do the same.

Here’s to the next 40 years of a cleaner, greener future!
